When we interpret the results we are not interested in the mean NEFA value,=
but
rather in the proportion of animals above the cut-point. In addition to
defining the appropriate cut-point, it is necessary to determine the alarm
level for the proportion of animals about the cut-point. The cut-point
recommendations vary some among diagnostic laboratories, veterinarians, and
consultants. However, a common recommendation for serum NEFA in dry cows and
heifers more than 14 days before calving is less than 0=
.325 <span

within 2 days of calving usually have high NEFA and are difficult to interp=

The alarm level recommendations vary also with a range of 10 to 40% above t=

herd-level problem with precalving negative ene=

the suggestion that dogs and cats be bathed every time they come inside. I
wonder how many pets this lady has bathed---especially cats. In a former li=

as a “kennel boy” at a large veterinary hospital (housing for at
least 250 dogs and cats) I bathed hundreds of dogs—and several cats. =
Most
dogs don’t particularly like to be bathed but when plopped in the tub=

Cats, however, are another deal entirely, and seldom is the bath optional s=

cats normally take care of their personal hygiene just fine. No, the candid=

is usually a cat with a skin condition and therefore not in a particularly =

soaping a cat elicits a progression of feline emotions:
Shock—terror—anger—revenge. A soaped-up cat is a slippery
business indeed, with almost all “grippable</spa=

require repeated treatment, the cat often knows what’s coming. Back in
