Results of corn, grain varie= ty trials online

PLATTSBURGH — North Country farmers interested in planting corn to harvest for grain or ethanol production in 2009 will find = data on 49 varieties tested under Northern New York growing conditions online.

The farmer-driven = Northern New York Agricultural Development Program funded the corn trials conducted = by Cornell researchers at Robbins Farms in Sackets<= /st1:PlaceName> Harbor in Jefferson County, at Greenwood Dairy in Canton in St. Law= rence County and at W.H. Miner Agricultural Research Institute in Chazy.

Lead researcher Dr. Margaret E. Smith with Cornell <= st1:PlaceType w:st=3D"on">University's Department of Plant Breeding and Genetics says, "The data in the hybrid production tables posted online= at www.nnyagdev.org show a number of hybrids that had excellent performance in= Northern New York in 2008. Hybrid choices, however, should always be made based on comprehensive data that includes multi-year and-or multi-location data, so the results of Northern New York corn grain trials since 2004 are also on the Northern New York Agricultural Development program Web site."

The Northern New Y= ork Agricultural Development Program is a farmer-driven agricultural research, education and outreach program that funds projects conducted on farms in Clinton, Essex, Franklin, Jefferson, Lewis and St. Lawrence counties.<= /o:p>
