Eric Young
Agronomist/Soil Scientist

Eric Young grew up on a dairy farm in Cortland County , New York . After graduating from SUNY Plattsburgh’s Environmental Science program, he worked as a research technician at Miner Institute. After earning his M.S. in Plant and Soil Science from UVM, Eric worked as an extension agronomist and nutrient management planner before returning to school for a P.h.D. in soil science at SUNY-ESF.  Before coming to Miner in June 2009, he spent three years as a postdoctoral scientist at UVM where his research focused on phosphorus transformations in soils.  Eric’s responsibilities at Miner include developing a research program to address the economic and environmental implications of crop production and managing the Institute’s field crop operations. Eric and his wife, Barbara, live in Plattsburgh with their two children.
